The Italian espresso in orbit with Argotec, Lavazza and the Italian Space Agency

It is called ISSpresso
and it is the first capsule-based espresso system able to work in the extreme conditions of space. Argotec
and Lavazza worked together with the Italian Space Agency to bring the authentic Italian espresso onto the International Space Station. ISSpresso
is the product of a project run by Argotec
, the Italian engineering company specialised in the design of aerospace systems and European leader in the preparation of healthy and nutritious foods for in-space consumption, and Lavazza, the historic Italian coffee brand.
ISSpresso support operations were carried out in the Argotec Mission Control Centre

Moments after David Avino turned on the ISSpresso machine in the middle of the International Astronomical Congress exhibition floor on Monday, 29. Sept. 2014, more than a dozen bystanders stopped in their tracks to watch it brew. Avino had also the pleasure to meet Charles Frank Bolden, Jr., the Administrator of NASA, Roberto Battiston, the President of the Italian Space Agency, as well as many other renowned stakeholders.
